What this checks
For every employer we track we show the official careers system its jobs come from, the number of US openings we found there today, and the email domains the company uses (we have verified domains for 171 of them). When you enter a recruiter’s address, we compare the part after the @ with those domains and with the hiring systems big employers use to send automatic emails, such as Workday, Greenhouse, Lever and iCIMS.
- Personal addresses (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and similar) are flagged as high risk. Large employers do not send offers from them.
- Look-alike domains that use the company’s name but are not its real domain, such as company-careers.com or companyhiring.net, are flagged as high risk.
- Hiring systems and job boards are shown as information: real messages often come through them, but you should still confirm the job on the employer’s own site.
What it cannot check
Email “From” addresses can be forged, so even a matching domain is not proof. Check the reply-to address, be wary of links that do not go to the company’s real careers site, and never pay to apply. Recruiting agencies and staffing firms often contact candidates from their own domains; that is normal, but ask which company the job is with and find it on that company’s site. Our list only covers employers we track, so a company missing here can still be genuine.
