How we check every job
USA Jobs 24 lists jobs that employers publish on their own careers sites. This page explains how a job gets onto USA Jobs 24, what we add to it, what we check and what we cannot check.
1. Where the jobs come from
Every morning at about 5 AM Eastern, our system reads the public careers systems of 172 employers. These are the systems the companies themselves use to receive applications, such as Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and the employers' own job sites. We never copy jobs from job boards, staffing agencies, social media or other job sites. The latest update, November 4, 5:17 AM ET, reached 172 of 172 employers and kept 17,030 openings. The About page lists every employer we read.
2. The rules a job must pass
- It comes from the employer. Only the careers system a company itself uses to hire counts as a source.
- It is in the US or open to the US. We read the location the employer gives and keep roles based in a US city or state, and remote roles open to people in the United States. Jobs that are only in other countries are left out.
- It has a real job page. Every listing links to a live page on the employer's own site where you can apply.
- No duplicates. If a company posts the same role twice in one place, we show it once.
3. What we add to each job
The employer's advert is only part of each job page. Above it, we write a summary from our own data:
- Where and what. We place each job in a city and state, and in a job family such as software, finance or healthcare, from its title and team.
- Experience. We read the experience the advert asks for, and tag a job "entry level" when it asks for up to a year, or is an internship, new grad, apprentice or trainee role.
- Pay. We show a pay range only when the employer publishes one, and compare it with other jobs of the same kind in the same state that also publish pay. We never invent a figure for a job that does not show pay.
- Skills. We pick out the skills the advert names and show how often each one is asked for across similar jobs today.
- The employer. How many jobs the company has open, where they are, and how many are remote or entry level.
- A checklist. Practical things to check before you apply for that particular job.
These figures are worked out again at every daily update, so they change as employers open and close jobs. Because they are worked out automatically, they can occasionally be wrong; the employer's advert is always the final word.
4. The employer's advert
Below our summary, each job page carries the employer's own description of the job, copied word for word from its careers site. We do not rewrite it; we only remove things that would not work here, such as scripts, images and styling. It is folded away so that you see our summary first. Select "Show the full advert" to read it.
5. When a job closes
When an employer takes a job down from its careers site, the job and its page leave USA Jobs 24 at our next daily update. We do not keep expired jobs online. Because we update once a day, a job can occasionally close on the employer's site before it leaves ours, so always check the employer's page before you spend time on an application.
6. What we do not check
We check that each job comes from the employer's own system and is still published there. We do not interview employers, confirm that a role will be filled, check pay beyond what the employer publishes, or check whether an employer sponsors work visas. A listing is not an offer of a job or an interview. Our disclaimer sets out the limits.
7. Guides and tools
Our career guides are written for job seekers in the United States and edited by the editors named below. Each guide shows the date it was last updated. Our free tools work in your web browser, and each one explains the rules and figures it uses.
8. Independence and advertising
USA Jobs 24 is free for job seekers. We do not charge anyone to apply, sell jobs or interviews, or collect resumes. Employers cannot pay to be listed or to appear higher. We cover our costs with ads served by Google, which are labelled as ads; advertisers have no say in which jobs we list or what we write. USA Jobs 24 is a private website and is not connected to USAJOBS.gov or any government agency.
9. Corrections
Every job page has a "Tell us" link for reporting a wrong, closed or suspicious listing. You can also write to contact@usajobs24.com or use our contact form. Messages go straight to the editors, and when a listing turns out to be wrong or fake we correct or remove it.
