About the Team
DoorDash Labs builds autonomous delivery robots and other autonomy solutions for DoorDash’s delivery platform. Operational Intelligence is a technical team within our Technical Operations organization, developing the internal applications, data integrations, and AI-powered workflows that help our robotics fleet operate reliably and efficiently. We work directly with fleet support, service, Engineering, and Product teams to turn operational challenges into practical technical solutions. Our work makes information more accessible, improves troubleshooting and decision-making, and reduces the manual effort required to support a growing fleet. Being embedded within Operations means we stay close to the people using our tools and see the impact of what we build.
About the Role
As a Senior Associate, Operational Intelligence, you will build and maintain applications, integrations, and automation that improve how our teams operate. This is a hands-on individual contributor role within Technical Operations, with software development as a core responsibility. We are looking for someone who brings strong systems experience: understanding how frontend and backend services fit together, how APIs connect them, and how software is built, deployed, and operated in production. You will own defined features and projects from understanding the operational problem through development, testing, rollout, and ongoing support. This role is suited to someone who enjoys writing code, investigating system behavior, and working directly with users to deliver solutions that remain useful and reliable after launch.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Design and build full-stack features, connecting frontend interfaces to backend services and data stores, with a clear understanding of how requests, authentication, and data move through the system.
- Instrument services with logging, metrics, and alerting so failures are detected and diagnosed quickly.
- Partner with DoorDash Engineering and platform teams to align Operational Intelligence systems with company infrastructure standards.
- Work directly with operational users to identify recurring challenges, translate feedback into technical requirements, and deliver improvements from concept through rollout.
- Develop integrations and data workflows using APIs, databases, and automated jobs to connect systems, improve information quality, and reduce manual handoffs.
- Contribute to AI-powered troubleshooting and decision-support capabilities, evaluating their accuracy, usefulness, reliability, latency, and operating cost.
- Use version control, code review, automated testing, and staging environments to validate changes before deploying them into operational workflows.
- Investigate application and integration failures, identify root causes, implement fixes or mitigations, and communicate findings to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Improve operational reporting by validating data relationships, metric definitions, and outputs used to inform decisions.
- Create technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and user resources so others can confidently use and maintain the solutions you build.
- Measure the impact of your work through adoption, time saved, reduced manual effort, and improvements in workflow quality.
- Play a lead role in transitioning the Operational Intelligence team’s systems to a production-grade architecture, from design decisions through migration.
- Mentor Operational Intelligence Associates to assist in the growth and development of the Operational Intelligence team (code quality, testing best practices, and documentation standards, etc.)
We’re excited about you because…
- You’re excited to apply your development skills within an Operations organization and work closely with the people who depend on the systems you build.
- You have 3–5 years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining software that runs in production environments.
- You understand how frontend and backend systems work together, including HTTP, client-server communication, authentication, and data flow across services.
- You have experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- You have experience deploying and operating containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes).
- You have worked with CI/CD pipelines (such as Buildkite) and collaborate through GitHub using pull requests, code review, and branching workflows.
- You can write, debug, and maintain Python and JavaScript code, and can use SQL to investigate, transform, and validate data.
- You use LLMs and AI-assisted development tools effectively, understand their strengths and limitations, and can explain, test, and maintain the code they produce.
- You have experience with APIs, databases, and system integrations, including diagnosing failures across connected systems.
- You’re comfortable using the command line, and collaborating through Git, GitHub, and issue-tracking tools.
- You approach problems with curiosity and a root-cause-first mindset, distinguishing immediate workarounds from durable improvements.
- You communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical audiences, write useful documentation, and explain progress, tradeoffs, and results.
- You take ownership of defined projects, follow through on commitments, surface blockers early, and proactively identify opportunities to improve how the team works.
