MongoDB is hiring a Director of Customer Marketing & Advocacy to showcase our customers and support one of our strongest growth levers. This is a build-and-influence role: you will scale customer marketing into a strategic growth function impacting market share, mindshare and awareness with a focus on enterprise segments and AI-native startups.
We're not looking for someone to run customer marketing as usual. We want a leader who will innovate, drive change, and take this program to the next level: an AI-enabled engine that finds, matches, and activates customer voice at speed and scale, and a program other companies point to as the bar they aspire to. You will replace manual, ad hoc processes with automation and AI, so customer stories reach every channel faster and with less friction and innovate the customer marketing function and model.
You will build a world where our customers show up everywhere: on stage, in analyst and press conversations, across our brand campaigns and content, and throughout the buying journey. You will also create a channel for customer insight where the insight we gather from customers will sharpen how Product and Product Marketing position, message, and launch. You will make sure every one of those moments is planned, measured, and tied to corporate goals. Customer voice will be the foundation of MongoDB's brand, building awareness and mindshare with the buyers and builders who matter most.
You will lead the customer marketing team across AMER and EMEA and partner closely with Brand, Communications, Strategic Events, Social Media, Product Marketing, Executive Programs, Sales, Customer Success, Partners, Product, and Investor Relations.
This role can be based remotely in the United States.
What You'll Do
Put customer voice at the center of MongoDB's story, across every channel
- Make the customer voice the heart of our brand. Partner with Brand Marketing & Creative to make customer outcomes a foundational part of MongoDB's brand narrative and campaigns, building awareness and mindshare and shaping how the market sees us
- Lead customer storytelling and content. Set the editorial bar for case studies, video, and executive point-of-view content, and make sure those stories feed brand, social media, communications, events, and demand programs
- Bring customers to every stage. Partner with Strategic Events to make customers central to flagship events such as MongoDB.local, plus keynotes, webinars, and brand activations, recruiting and preparing customer speakers who bring our story to life
- Earn credibility beyond our own channels. Work with Communications to connect customers with the press, analysts, and industry influencers who shape enterprise and developer opinion, so credible third-party voices carry our story further than we can alone
Reimagine the program and build the AI-enabled engine
- Redefine what customer marketing can be, and set the bar. Set the charter, operating model, and multi-year roadmap for a function that unifies storytelling, advocacy, executive engagement, and influencer relationships into one system, and build a program that peers benchmark themselves against
- Build an AI-enabled engine that scales. Use automation and AI to find, match, and activate customer voice across channels, from story intake and customer matching to content tagging and performance reporting. Replace ad hoc, one-off requests with clear standards, shared ownership across teams, defined dependencies, and accountability for results
- Grow a deep, diverse customer community. Lead the global strategy for recruiting and nurturing customers across enterprise segments and AI-native startups, so we always have the right voice for the moment and the channel
- Embed customer proof across the business. Bring customer evidence into brand campaigns, product launches, demand programs, and sales conversations, so it becomes a dependable part of how we market, launch, and win
- Turn customer voice into insight. Make customer insight a two-way exchange, not just a channel for outbound proof. Capture what customers tell us through stories and bring it back to Product and Product Marketing to inform positioning, messaging, and launches
Drive impact
- Prove the business case. Define KPIs and build the attribution model that connects customer proof to brand awareness and mindshare, revenue growth, retention, and expansion
- Influence up and across. Build executive sponsorship across Brand, Communications, Social, Events, Sales, Customer Success, Product, Partners, Product Marketing, and Investor Relations
- Build and lead the team. Set vision, priorities, and metrics; hire, coach, and develop a high-performing global team, including people managers. Own budget, agencies, and the tooling behind the work
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of B2B marketing experience, including significant leadership of customer marketing, advocacy, or customer-led brand programs at an enterprise software, cloud, data, or developer-focused company
- 5+ years leading teams, including managing managers and teams across regions
- A record of innovating and driving change: you've taken a customer marketing or advocacy program well beyond the standard model, built systems that scale efficiently, and created work your peers and the broader community look to as a benchmark
- Hands-on experience using AI and automation to scale customer marketing or advocacy operations, plus a clear point of view on where AI is taking the function
- A track record of building or scaling a customer marketing function through significant growth or change, with quantifiable results
- Exceptional storytelling and editorial judgment, with experience making customer voice central to a brand narrative, building awareness and mindshare, and translating complex technology into clear, credible business stories
- Experience integrating customer voice across brand campaigns, communications, social and influencer marketing, events, and product launches
- Proven success building customer advocacy and co-marketing programs that recruit and engage a strong, diverse base of customer participants
- Executive presence, with experience engaging C-level customers and changing senior leaders' minds with data and customer evidence
- Experience building cross-functional operating models with clear ownership, dependencies, and accountability, and influencing stakeholders without direct authority
- Comfort in a fast-moving, technical, AI-driven market.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience marketing to both large enterprises and startups, and to technical buyers or developers as well as executive decision makers
- Experience with AI-enabled advocacy or customer evidence platforms
- Experience supporting executive communications, keynote development, or large-scale customer events
- Experience supplying customer proof for earnings, investor, or analyst materials at a public company
- A recognized presence in the customer marketing community, such as conference speaking, advisory boards, industry awards, published thought leadership, or teaching
